Paul Raff is a Canadian architect who has visionary thoughts about architecture and sustainable environment. This is one of his residential projects in Toronto with passive solar technologies to minimize the ecological effect. This house blends environmentally responsible building strategies and elegant architectural composition.
This 352 m2 residence sits amongst the old growth trees and traditional homes in the aptly called Forest Hill neighborhood, set on a gently slope lot. Natural daylight is possible to take into the house because of its situation on a strict Cartesian axis. On the building’s south façade, there is a tall expansive window absorbs sun to heat the house during the cold white winters.
From the street, the cascade house has visual privacy provided by maximum diffusion of light comes from a prominent glass privacy screen. The screen is made from 475 panels of 19mm vertically stacked glass, cascading like a waterfall in a contemporary corrugated effect. Behind the screen is a room opens out to terrace and pool to extend the interplay of light and water in a continuous flow between interior and exterior space.
