Killcare Beach House – Natural Home for Two Families

killcare beach house design

Being in this house, you will feel open and unforced. A house that is designed for shared use by two families. The house has built as a tall timber-framed ‘castle’, piled up along a straight stair. Like the tree canopy, they are sheltered under a single plane of roof, cantilevered and interlocking. The site of the house is on a fragile surface of 45º slope and remnant lush bushland.

For the finishing and details of the house, the long-life and simple materials are chosen. For example the application of treated timber poles, durable hardwood, zinc, with unpainted fiber cement walls, roof, gutters and ceilings. With dominant grey color and uncoated, it will suit with the bush setting.
The kitchen is the core of the house. It is as a bridge and connector to each room. Every room is private and has different height and aspect, with a different view of the bush. This beach house is designed by Tonkin Zulaikha Greer with Ellen Woolley. See the other projects here.
