The RainShine house is a two-story house with 2.800-square foot floor area. It has 3-1/2 bath home and the home take a site on 1/3-acre infill lot. This contemporary house design has three bedrooms. A unique butterfly roof sheltered the living room, dining, kitchen and guest bedrooms. The roof is structured with steel beams spanned by exposed 1- 1/2” tongue-and-groove wood decking. The roof floats above continuous clerestories allowing light to flood into the interior. So it is the reason this house is called as Rainshine house.
This green house is designed by Architect Robert M. Cain. The RainShine house, located in Decatur, Georgia. The butterfly roof is designed to capture rainfall for a rain harvest system located in the basement (Rain) and is oriented to maximize southern exposure for a roof mounted photovoltaic system (Shine). The butterfly design, with its inverted gable, simplifies rainwater collection, eliminates extensive gutter and downspout systems and the associated maintenance headaches common in conventional gabled or hip roofed homes.
Beneath the eco-friendly roof, this sustainable architecture features expanses of thermal glass, and thick walls which naturally maintain a comfortable interior environment. RainShine was constructed under the LEED for Homes Program Pilot Rating System. Upon completion it was awarded the highest possible rating – Platinum – for having exceeded the requirements by a significant 11 points.” RainShine House is also ENERGY STAR- and EarthCraft-certified, making it among the cleanest and Greenest residential designs around.
