Wall-Less House – Japanese Architecture in Nagano

Japanese wall less house

This modern house takes a site on a sloping site, and the rear half of the house is dug into the ground. The excavated earth being used as fill for the front half, creating a level floor. The roof of the house is flat and it is fixed rigidly to the upturned slab. This action has result to free the front 3 columns from any horizontal loads. So, these columns could be reduced to a minimum 55mm in diameter. The architect wants to show the structural concept as the design idea. It is applied with sliding panels on the walls and mullions. The kitchen, bathroom and toilet can be flexibly partitioned by the sliding doors considering that they are placed without enclosure to create a universal floor.
