This house was designed by Standard , a Los Angeles based architectural firm. The Hidden House located in the Mount Washington/Glassell Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Actually, this is a rennovation house project for a young family. Instead of deasign a new houae, the architects found a way to maintain as much of the existing structure as possible, both minimizing code complications and the environmental footprint of the project.
Located on a 7-acre site that is calm and quite, this house can only be accessed via a half-mile unpaved road and far wide vistas of the city can be enjoyed. The original structure of this two bedroom house is defended and the new house is designed to take a place around the original space. The new house is arranged around two main courtyards with a new kitchen, family room, office, garage, master bedroom suite, and kid’s bedroom. The living room and dining room occupied the original space of the house. The main living spaces open up to the inner courtyard.
This house also features the sustainable design such as the redwood cladding, to reclaimed endgrain block wood, to the cork flooring in the office, and highly efficient appliances/equipment. The cross ventilation and day-lighting can be allowed without run forced-air conditioning or heat or energy-consuming electrical lighting. The house is insulated with sustainable cotton and built to be solar-ready. The garden is planted with native landscape and vegetables.
