This house is in Somosaguas, a suburb of Madrid, Spain. The Spanish architectural firm A-cero designed this home on a 3.500 m2 plot presenting a light slope that is used by the access ramp to the garage. The floor plan has the form of a Greek cross, and is delimited by the access pathway and the other properties on both of its sides.
The single-family house is a compact design with 1.200 m2 floor area. The design refers to two main concepts which are also presented in the interior design and construction materials. The main concepts are: a great functionality in the distribution of the interior spaces and their openness to the exterior to make the most of the views.
Like a composition of sculptures, the shapes are designed in a clear and smooth composition which born from the encounter of expressive and massive blocks composing a sculptural group. The façade boasts geometrical configuration in inclined walls with clean cuts. The staircase connects the entire house in cylinder shape which is surrounded by the two rectangular intersected bodies.
This three level house comprised the public spaces on the ground floor: hall, living and dining rooms, office, TV room and kitchen. The exterior can be viewed from the double height living room through great glass panes. To maximize the views, the objects like railings or walls, have been suppressed or replaced by transparent elements. The guests may take a look into the interior via a 6 m high glass pane of the main entrance door.
The technical installation rooms, laundry, indoor swimming pool, games room, wine cellar, garage and a leisure area with a reading space, dining room and TV are housed on a lower level. The upper level where a studio is located can be reached through a staircase with glass railing and glass corridor. The master bedroom, equipped with a walk-in closet and bathroom, and four more bedrooms with bathrooms, organized around a corridor covered with shelves.
The exterior is dynamic and rich which is translated to a structural system made only of reinforced concrete walls, avoiding intermediate columns that could alter the space’s scale and cleanliness. The façade has a porch to protect protects from the sunlight and creates an interesting play of light and shadow. The white travertine covered the house creates a clean and smooth finishing. The porch’s floor and the deck surrounding the pool and Jacuzzi are made of ipê wood. The terraces and parterres in the garden which is placed in front of the house, add a decorative outline surrounded by a surface covered with white gravel. The entrance is marked by the three sculptures.
