The Ingénieur civil was Peter Braun. La Tour Moinat by 2b Architectes. The project benefited the space, where was available in the attic, with a height of only 1.60m below the roof. Like a “parasite”, there was a new “piece of furniture” in the tower. To provide 30m2 of additional living space, the functional organization of the room layout, the circulation between levels, and the new floor of the attic, which had been lowered, were determined at one and the same time. This object was both a structure in its own right and an integral part of the tower. The entire interior of the original stone building from the entrance to the new space created beneath the rafters was occupied. A contrasting materiality was needed in the installation, in interplay with the existing stone walls. Three-ply larchwood panels were applied for the whole construction. Whereas white materials were used on the walls and the peripheral units, its “wooden” materiality was affirmed by the piece of furniture through the grainy structure of the panels, which both characterized and dates the renovation.
