GRAFT‘s Make It Right (MIR) Project Designers consider the situation when people socialize within the neighborhood. The Camelback houses are established. There is a strong connection between the private interior zone and the shared public space on the street. The house design is inspired by the cradle to cradle philosophy. The modern house carries the combination of a better environment, economical, and society. The house becomes the futuristic approach that got us sold in the first place.

The architect was Masahiro Kinoshita / KINO architects. It was located on Himeji Hyogo Prefecture. The principal use was for private residence. The structure consisted of reinforced concrete. The scale of building had 3 stories. The site area reached 162.54 m². The building area was 56.03m². The total floor area was 155.13m². it was completed on 2009.05. The Photo was Daici Ano.
Himeji Observatory House

The minimalist house became a private house with an attached office, directly northwest of Himeji castle. The site’s depth was longer than its width. A building bordered to this house which concealed Himeji castle at ground level. Although there were modern buildings in this city, a traditional “castle town” surrounded the private residence, with many historical buildings, houses, and monuments.
The house design was based on the following three requests: first, It could be seen Himeji castle from the living room, second, It could be parked five cars, with three of those stalls as the guest parking space and, Third, It blended a garden where laundry could be hung out to dry and to allow their dogs to run about freely.

The differences between the historical buildings and the new residence were mediated. Using the shape of a twisted rectangular structure was the solution of the theme. It was designed with the following steps:
• The building was built at a distance from the street to make the necessary parking space.
• A rectangular structure was basically cut in half, with each half shifted in opposite directions to make a “staggered” form. Enough space was allowed for the private garden.
• The walls of the staggered structure were twisted and lifted in order to incorporate a view of Himeji castle.

In architectural terms, a building structure was created with four hyperbolic parabolic walls (refer to concept model). As the walls increase in height, the overall area and volume of each floor enhanced as well. The house a more spacious atmosphere was given. In addition, when compared to a tall, large building that is adjacent to low-rise historical structures, the Himeji Observatory House adjusted much better to its surroundings because the twisted, staggered shape decreased any extraneous volume. Furthermore, as the building ages and the concrete walls start to weather, the Himeji Observatory House would expand more character. The characters were the trees grew taller, the exterior walls became weather-stained, and the entire property slowly harmonized with the rest of the neighborhood. The modest appearance was similar to the moss-covered stone walls of Himeji castle. This house stretched its toes in order to see Himeji castle over the canopy of the trees. The house showed the client’s attachment to Himeji castle, while also was accepted by the historical town.

A house in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan was completed by Masahiro Kinoshita of KINO architects . The Japanese house was designed to afford views towards the nearby castle from the third floor living room. It was called Himeji Observatory House. The three-storey project was established as a concrete rectangular volume divided in half. Each volume was moved to accommodate parking spaces and twisted towards the castle.
