Urban planning
The site was situated in a settlement of detached single-family houses, characteristic for the 1970s. The traditional arrangement of functions for each storey consisted of basement/garage; ground floor/living space; attic floor/ bedrooms. They had been transformed into a linear order. The so called “streckhof“, stringing together different functions in one floor adapted the original farm model for this area.

Function
Three structures similar to container summarized different functions. A canopy which led to the fully glazed passageway and ended in an overhang at the garden side marked the main entrance from the street. Garages and storage space were in the first of three containers. The natural light was achieved from three sides in the living space and was in the second container, which as porch. The kitchen connected a vegetable garden directly.
The intimate areas, far off the street and the entrance area, was implied by the third container. Two east-orientated children’s bedrooms, there was one bathroom, which in between. The parents bedroom was orientated to the west. The last two buildings framed the terrace with the elongated pool, so, wind and privacy protected. They could be accessed from the kitchen, the living room, the hallway as well as the parents’ bedroom.

Construction
The outside walls were designed as brick construction, to make sure that the client could build as much as his own. The client’s family installed the insulation and the facade made of acryl glass. The roof construction was made of prefabricated timber elements with a foil sealing. The connecting passageway was as a bridge. Its facade comprised of structural glazing without any mechanical fixing.

Facility engineering
Underfloor heating equipped all living rooms. A geothermical heating collector and two heat pumps could heat the water. The walkway, there were open and closed sequences that constant views were allowed into the half-open courtyards and each container. The own piece of vineyard was achieved into his house by planting both sides of the glazed passageway with vine.
Controlled ventilation with heat recovery supplied the fresh air. A solar collector on the rooftop heated the swimming pool.

This modern house in Zellerndorf, Austria, was designed by Vienna studio Franz Architekten. The house design consisted of three separate units linked by glass passages. Called Streckhof Reloaded, there was a garage and storage in the volume nearest to the road, kitchen, living and dining areas in the next unit and bedrooms in the furthest, most private unit.
Accessible through the kitchen, living room, hallway or parents’ room, a terrace and pool was placed between the two furthest volumes. A kitchen garden was at the rear and there were vines either side of the glass walkways. Photographs were by Lisa Rastl.

The house design was formed a concrete to be made habitable independent of the building site. The concrete shell was positioned at the edge of the remainder of a plain along the Danube floodplains. Its basic measurements reached 615 cm by 620 cm by 2230 cm. photograph was by Roland Krauss

The concrete form was arranged on 4 supports – one one-legged element, two two-legged elements and one three-legged element.

Its distance from the ground extended from 120 cm to 210 cm. A second form, soft, white and independent of the outer shell, was arranged within the concrete shell. The white form opens up and programs made habitable. The concrete shell’s inner area was 2165 cm long and approx. 515 cm high. There were two interleaved forms, each with a different hardness and materiality.

The official name of project was St. Joseph. It was located in Lower Austria, Austria. The Project Team was Wolfgang Tschapeller ZT GmbH with Wolfram Mehlem and Jesper Bork

Vienna studio Wolfgang Tschapeller Architekt designed this concrete house on stilts. The box house was a family home in Austria. The unique house was called Single Family House St Joseph. The exposed concrete structure showed irregular-shaped windows and sat on four supporting legs. A shallow pit had been discovered underneath the hovering building. It could be abused as a car port or storage space. Despite the flat planes of the exterior shell, the interior space showed a series of faceted walls. Oddly-shaped rooms and windows were formed. The interior spaces were covered completely in white, with the exception of wooden flooring in some rooms and the treads of the staircase, which cantilever out of the wall.
