A contemporary crib designed by Apiacás Arquitetos and located in Rua Juranda, Vila Beatriz, São Paulo, Brazil, was Juranda House. The modern house stretched over an area of 150 square meters. Due to an accentuated slope, separated by a three storey void which contains the staircase access to the floors, the building was distributed over half levels. The spaces of the house: living room, dining room and kitchen on the ground floor as well as three bedrooms, two bathrooms, office and a ‘deck’ on the upper floors was organized by this void. Built up to the edges of the plot, consequently the house was lit and ventilated from the front and rear. To make the house design as transparent as possible, in a way that would establish a relationship with the external areas was the idea. In order make this viable, the openings were designed at the front and rear of the house to be on the same axis and to be three metres wide. The glazing elements sled behind the walls uniting the internal and external spaces when opened. Trying to avoid earth moving and limiting the building’s dimensions to a strictly necessary living space, the residence was said to be built in an economical manner.

The Oh House would possess architecture aficionados oh-ing and ah-ing. The Japanese house was designed by Japanese firm Atelier Tekuto. This modern house was situated on a small, irregular-shaped urban lot that dictated its unusual vertical shape and dimensions. It aimed to incorporate a parking space – which proved more difficult than it sounded, thanked to the lot size. To make way for a car, the main entrance was positioned below grade. On entering, a flight of stairs referred up to the home’s main living areas.

The open-concept interiors showed smart, suspended furniture that the limited floor space free was left. Pieces like the hanging dining table and various built-ins did not only have function, but a contemporary aesthetic that worked wonders in the modern, minimalist interiors was featured. Due to this small house design was unusual plan and proportions, the space was actually larger than it seemed from the outside.
