The architects presented energy efficient modern house due to the competition held by the Department of Energy at Cornell University. To fulfill the criteria for a zero-energy residence, Zero Energy Design (ZED) created this sustainable house. Called the Solar Decathlon House in Ithaca, New York, the house design consisted of one bedroom and one bathroom home. Photovoltaic and thermal systems, rain-water recycling and water-efficient fixtures were used. They were surrounded by green scenery. And the interior was as stunning packing everything need in a modern home, but, the outside couch was the most interesting part.

Y House was a renovation project aiming to create a three-storey house from an existing two-storey house. The old house was a concrete structure house that was built 5 years ago, with angled roof, and the exterior wall was covered by white tiles. The new house design featured a flat roof and the exterior wall is covered by gray blocks with outer insulation. The sustainable design of the new house allows the owner to choose the living place according to the season. The north part with natural ventilation is suitable for summertime, while the south part with basic heating system is suitable for wintertime.

This sustainable house located at Changping ward, the suburb of Beijing City, was designed by Beijing Matsubara Architects, for a small family with four persons. The dimension of the new house is 16 meters depth and 17 meters width. The new house was built in “C” form, and the top level was created by flattening the roof and adding new floor.
